Plasticine Games

Welcome!

Plasticine Games is a small independent game studio owned and operated by Shawn.Genji. What started as a hobby has grown into a passion project dedicated to making small, tactile games that are fun to fidget with — the kind of thing you open for “just a minute” and look up twenty minutes later.

Every game is designed, programmed, and maintained in my spare time. I care about the little details, so I put a lot of thought into responsive controls, satisfying feedback, handcrafted sound effects, and interfaces that feel good to poke at, even for something as ordinary as a calculator.

About CALC-U-LATOR

CALC-U-LATOR started from a silly thought: what if a calculator was actually powerful, but you had to earn every button on it?

The game hands you a busted old solar calculator, the “CC-1,” with almost nothing unlocked. You tap out what you can, print a little paper tape, and slowly buy your way into more digits, more operators, and eventually a squad of little Auto-Solvers that keep the LCD ticking up even while you’re not looking.

It’s an idle clicker at heart, but I wanted it to feel like a real desk object — warm case plastic, a slightly dim LCD, a tape unit that actually prints. No big story, no pressure, just a satisfying loop and a bigger number.

CALC-U-LATOR is still a work in progress. You may run into bugs, balance issues, or features still being sanded down. Every update brings fixes and new things to unlock as I keep chipping away at it.

If you give it a spin, thank you. I’d genuinely love to hear what you think — feedback and bug reports directly shape where the game goes next.

Music Credits

The soundtrack playing on CALC-U-LATOR’s tape deck is licensed from composer Isaac Haines. Huge thanks to Isaac for the tracks — they set the whole vibe of the game.

Looking Ahead

CALC-U-LATOR is one of a few projects currently in motion at Plasticine Games, alongside Owldoku and other small experiments that prioritize creativity and craft over chasing trends.

As a solo independent developer, updates happen as time allows, but every project gets the same level of care.

Your Privacy

CALC-U-LATOR stores your progress locally on your own device using your browser’s Local Storage — digits unlocked, tape history, score, and settings. Plasticine Games doesn’t have access to this information, and it’s never uploaded to any server.

The site may show ads through Google AdSense or similar providers, which may collect information under their own privacy policies. See the full Privacy Policy for details.

Accessibility

CALC-U-LATOR is built to work with a keyboard, a screen reader, and browser zoom, not just touch and mouse, and it targets the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA wherever that's practical for an interactive game like this.

Concretely, that means every color pairing on the page meets AA contrast requirements; every key, button, and dialog is fully operable from a keyboard, including the calculator itself, the hold-to-confirm ascend action, and the pop-up menus; dialogs trap focus while open, close with Escape, and hand focus back to whatever you had open when you close them; pinch-to-zoom works everywhere, since a page that blocks zooming isn’t readable for everyone; and the page respects your device’s “reduce motion” setting, shortening or skipping animations automatically if you have that turned on.

One honest limitation: a couple of the game’s bonus mini-events — a little dino that scurries across the LCD, a balloon that floats up — are timed by design. They’re fully reachable and operable by keyboard, but reacting to something that briefly appears and disappears is inherently harder for some players, and I haven’t found a way around that without changing what the feature is. They’re optional flourishes, not required for any core progression, so missing one never blocks your progress.

If you run into an accessibility barrier anywhere on the site or in the game, please tell me — I read every message and I’d genuinely like to fix it. See the Contact section below for the best way to reach me.

Thanks for stopping by Plasticine Games and giving CALC-U-LATOR a try. I hope mashing buttons on a calculator turns out to be more satisfying than it has any right to be.
